Today: Huron Heights Secondary School in Kitchener, the region's newest public high school, salutes Earth Day with a series of events, including tree-planting.
Today, 2 p.m.: 20-Minute Makeover: Residents in the region take 20 minutes to clean up litter around their business or neighbourhood.
Today, 9:30 a.m.: Tree-planting at Camp Heidelberg Outdoor Education Centre; an event for area schools.
Today and tomorrow: Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro volunteers hand out free energy kits at the Cambridge Centre. Kits include energy-efficient light bulbs, a shower timer and other small, useful items.
Tomorrow, 10 a.m. to noon, Tim Hortons Litter Cleanup, Victoria Park, Kitchener.
Tomorrow, 7:30 a.m., Region of Waterloo rain barrel distribution (3,000); Cambridge Centre, Conestoga Mall and Fairview Park mall. $30, one per household. Valid identification and proof of residency is required.

April 28, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: RIM Park, build a birdhouse and learn about reducing pesticide use at the Sunoco Earth Day.
May 1: St. Anne's School in Cambridge celebrates Arbour Week (April 27 to May 6) with an "extreme makeover" of its playground.
